Greetings fellow Bizarros:

Have you ever heard the expression ‘raining cats and dogs’?
Well, in Japan it rains fish and tadpoles. Literally! Not
surprising in a country popular for Godzilla sightings.

Some people said the fallen objects might have come from the
beaks of flying birds, while others said that a gust of wind
might have swirled them up together with water. However, the
actual reason behind the phenomenon remains unknown, leaving
residents looking up and wondering what might fall from the
sky next.

One evening a man noticed the sound of something plopping onto
the ground at a parking lot of the Nakajima citizens center
in Nanao. When he looked back, he saw tadpoles scattered upon
a car and on the ground.

According to Kiwamu Funakura, 36, an official at the center
who went to the parking lot at the time, about 100 tadpoles
were found to have been scattered around the area.

In Hakusan, about 70 kilometers southwest of Nanao, between
20 to 30 dead tadpoles were found on a car windshield and
other places in a parking lot.

Meanwhile, Yukio Oumi, 78, found small dead fish around his
house in Nakanotomachi. He found 13 fish, apparently crucian
carp each 3 centimeters long, on the back of his truck and
the ground.

According to the Kanazawa Local Meteorological Observatory,
it has no information that any tornadoes occurred on the days
when the tadpoles and small fishes were found. “Birds such
as herons or umineko (black-tailed gulls) that had these
tadpoles in their mouths or gorges might have dropped them
because they were startled by something while flying,” said
Kimimasa Tokikuni, the head of the Ishikawa prefectural
branch of the Japanese Society for Preservation of Birds.

All the places where tadpoles and small fish were found are
located near rice paddies in which tadpoles live. So it is
possible that gray herons and other waterfowl, which are in
the middle of their breeding periods, tried to take them as
food for young birds, according to Tokikuni.

That may be…just as long as whatever is scaring the food
right out of passing birds’ mouths isn’t a 200-foot tall,
radioactive fire-breathing lizard.

Bizarrely,

————————————————————

+——————– Bizarre Revenge ———————+

After his wife left him, spurned husband Donald Niblett
wrecked their home with a bulldozer, causing damage in
excess of 15,000 English pounds.

In 1988, an Egyptian belly-dancer paid back her unfaithful
husband by going on a massive spending spree with his
credit card totaling $46,000 before flying to his villa
in France and smashing the place up.

A married pilot dismissed his mistress from his London
apartment. The young woman agreed to leave but asked for a
day to pack her belongings. When he returned from an over-
seas flight he found the phone off the hook. His mistress
had made a long distance call to the speaking clock in
Washington D.C.

A housewife, distraught over her husband’s unfaithfulness,
decided to throw herself out of the window of their third
floor apartment. She didn’t realize her husband was
walking beneath. She survived, he did not.

——— Police: Male suspect wore purple bra ———-

SPARTA, Mich. – Police in Michigan said a man accused of
taking a woman’s keys and rifling through her car was
wearing nothing but his boxer shorts and a purple bra.
The Rockford District Court heard Sparta resident Lisa
Collins woke up Tuesday at about 5 a.m. and discovered
her front door was open, her keys were missing and a man
she recognized as neighbor Jacob Fast, 20, was going
though the items in her car, The Grand Rapids (Mich.)
Press reported Thursday. Court documents said Fast, who
was dressed only in his boxer shorts and a purple bra,
tried to kick and push officers during his arrest. He
was charged with resisting arrest and home invasion. He
was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bond. Fast has one prior
conviction for second-degree home invasion and possession
of burglary tools from 2005, court records show.

———- Wife, husband both win lottery sums ————

VILLA ROCA, Ga. – A Georgia couple said the excitement
they felt at winning $5,000 in the lottery was nothing
compared to the thrill of winning $1 million the next
week. Karen Hill, 34, of Villa Roca, said she was pleased
when her husband, Chuck, came home with a $5,000 Weekly
WinFall ticket, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported
Thursday. “I never thought in a million years that I’d
win anything, even the $5,000,” Hill said. “So I’m still
in a state of shock.” However, she said the state of shock
increased by a factor of 200 when she bought winning
Georgia Lottery ticket for $1 million. “I was really
ecstatic about the $5,000,” Hill said, “but then, boom!
When I got this one I was just like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe
this. My life is going to change for the better.’” Hill
said she and her husband plan to use their newfound riches
to pay off their bills.

——– Man enjoys lavish Bar Mitzvah while jailed ———

NEW YORK – A New York Department of Correction source says
a wealthy inmate held a lavish bar mitzvah celebration for
his son despite being incarcerated. The anonymous source
said Tuvia Stern, jailed for perpetrating financial scams
and jumping bail, celebrated his son’s bar mitzvah at a
New York jail with nearly 60 guests for six hours last
December, the New York Post reported. “I’ve never seen, in
my career, anything as stupid as this,” the insider said
of the Dec. 30 event. “It’s outrageous what transpired.”
The source said an outside caterer brought kosher food to
the jail for the event, and bar mitzvah guests were allowed
to keep their cell phones despite jail rules to the
contrary. The Post said the event, which has been criticiz-
ed by Correction Commissioner Martin Horn, resulted in five
top correction officials being disciplined Wednesday. Among
those disciplined in the 2008 event was correction chaplain
Rabbi Leib Glanz, who was suspended for two weeks for help-
ing orchestrate the bar mitzvah in the jail’s gym.

CARROLL, Ga. – A Georgia man said he received a phone call
saying the three-bedroom house his father built had been
successfully demolished — by mistake. Al Byrd said he was
shocked when the Marietta demolition company told him the
Carroll house, which was vacant but filled with family
heirlooms, had been destroyed, the Atlanta Journal-
Constitution reported. “It’s just incredulous that some-
thing like this can happen and no one contacts the owner,”
Byrd said. He said the demolition company told him the
work crew’s paperwork and GPS coordinates had led them to
the home. He theorized the vacant house across the street
was the house sought by the company. “We had heirlooms in
there,” Byrd said. “My mom’s dining room set, her hutch

Lewis, Social Security, contrary to your negative viewpoint,
will continue to be here. It’s already secure through 2036
and can be fixed permanently with one simple addition. Start
taxing ALL income at the current level of 13%, eliminating
the cut off point of roughly $106,000. Why should somebody
making $150,000 pay a smaller percentage than some poor
schlub supporting his wife and three kids on $60,000 per
year? And, make all members of Congress start paying their
fair share of taxes and medical insurance. That’ll kick them
in the butt to fix the mess they have created. -Dylan
[As long as politicians are elected by people they are giving
free money away to, the financial mess will never get fixed.]

Lewis your comments about all the ufo sightings and follow up
question of whats up is simple we as a race of 6 1/2 billion
beings on a planet full of natural resources are nearing our
end shortly we as a species that could venture out to conquer
the stars will destroy ourselves instead the biggest reason
no alien has ever landed at the white house is when they do
they are killed and dissected no wonder when our number one
passion is killing and stealing from each other there has to
be signs posted out in space telling everyone not to land here
and to beware the hostile monkies -Valhat
foot-tall mechanical spiders. The spiders, operated by
French performance art group La Machine, walked Sunday by
raising and lowering each of their eight mammoth legs in
turn and sprayed water from their mechanical mouths, the
Kyodo news agency reported Monday. The parade, which
celebrated the 150th anniversary of Yokohama port, was
attended by an estimated 500,000 people, organizers said.

———- Firefighters free girl, 3, from potty ———–

CHIRK, Wales – Firefighters in Wales said they were called
to a home to rescue a 3-year-old girl whose foot became
stuck in the handle of a toilet. Kevin Rogers said he
purchased the training potty for his daughter, Rebecca,
last Wednesday and the following day he heard her and
her sister, Daniella, 2, screaming, The Daily Telegraph
reported Monday. “The day after I bought the potty I got
it out and left the girls with it to do the washing up,”
Rogers said. “I heard this horrible scream but thought the
girls were just fighting as usual. When the scream carried
on I realized something was really wrong so I charged into
the living room, only to find that Rebecca had her foot
lodged in the handle of the potty. She was hysterical.”
Rogers said he phoned the fire department after his own
efforts to free Rebecca’s foot failed. Firefighters said
it took them about 15 minutes to extricate her. “This type
of call is very infrequent and unusual,” said Chris Nott,
county operations manager for North Wales Fire and Rescue.
“The crew worked well and we were very happy that the
youngster was safe and well.”

——— Woman skydives to mark 70th birthday ———–

OGDEN, Utah – A Utah woman who survived a bout of potent-
ially deadly West Nile virus says she celebrated her 70th
birthday by skydiving with family and friends. Fay Andrews,
who suffered from West Nile two years ago, said she
celebrated her Monday birthday early by jumping out of a
Cessna 208 Saturday alongside her grandson, grandnephews,
grandniece and a friend while a crowd of 30 friends and
family members looked on from the Ogden-Hinckley Airport,
the Salt Lake Tribune reported. “When I was a little girl,
somewhere in the back of my mind I wanted to jump from an
airplane,” Andrews said. “The idea must have stuck there.”
“It was wonderful,” she told the assembled crowd after the
jump. “You should try it.” Andrews said her bout with West
Nile virus left her hospitalized for five days and she
required a month of rehabilitation to relearn how to walk
and use her left arm. “I was in so much misery that I
wanted to die,” she said. “Then a friend pushed me and I
decided that I was going to start living. I did everything
I could to get better, including positive affirmations.
I told myself over and over, ‘Yes I can,’ ‘I can get
healthy,’ and ‘I am healthy.’”

———- Woman forced to clothe naked gnomes ———–

BROMSGROVE, England – A British woman said she was ordered
by local officials to clothe the naked lawn gnomes that
have stood in her front garden for about 15 years. Sandra
Smith, 64, said she was forced to cover the gnomes, one
male and one female, after a neighbor complained about the
garden decorations to the Bromsgrove District Council, The
Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday. “They have been here for
around 15 years and everyone who visits me finds them funny
and a bit harmless fun,” Smith said. “They’re proper cheeky
chappies with their little smiley faces looking up at you.”
“I’m going to be keeping the gnomes in the garden with
their T-shirts on at the moment but I love like to get the
gnomes out in their glory again,” she said. The neighbor,
who asked not to be named, said the nude gnomes were in-
appropriate with children around. “I don’t think they
should be in a garden with my young kids running around
nearby,” she said. “They are childish and I think it
pathetic that they are in a front garden in full view of
everyone.”

Greetings fellow Bizarros:

Today’s bizarre comes to you from Japan. And this is bizarre,
folks, but I guess no more bizarre than a lot of religious
ceremonies. To tell you the truth, I would sort of like to
see something like this in, say, the Catholic church.

About 9,000 men clad only in loincloths joined in a free-for-
all at a Buddhist temple in Japan, trying to secure two pieces
of sacred wood.

The event at Saidaiji Temple in Okayama was part of the 500th
anniversary of Saidaiji Eyo, described as “one of Japan’s
three oddest festivals.”

Whoever got out with the two chunks of wood, if not his
“fundoshi” or white loincloth, was to be proclaimed by the
temple’s monks as “the man of fortune for the year.”

The ceremony began about 10 p.m. Saturday with a purification
ritual in which the men poured cold water on themselves. Then,
at midnight, the monks turned off the lights and dropped the
two 8-inch sticks among them and the struggle began.

There was no word on who turned out to be the lucky guy, but
it was probably the one who had the fewest butt cheeks smashed
in his face while scrambling for the wood. Why does that sound
so homoerotic to me?

Bizarrely,

Lewis

————————————————————

ROME – Authorities in Rome said a law to take effect in
March bans ice cream, pizza and sandwich vendors from
operating after 1 a.m. Officials said the city council
measure was designed to bring the city’s nightlife to a
close at an earlier hour, ANSA reported Thursday. “This
applies to croissant makers, ice cream makers, cake shops,
yogurt shops, sandwich shops, take-aways and rotisseries,”
city councilor Davide Bordoni said. “One in the morning
seems to us a reasonable hour that is satisfactory for
both the shop owners and residents,” he said.

———- Teen fired after calling job ‘boring’ ———–

CLACTON, England – A 16-year-old British girl said she was
fired from her office job after managers saw that she had
branded her position “boring” on Facebook. Kimberley Swann
said she was called into her manager’s office at Ivell
Marketing & Logistics in Clacton, England, and given a
letter stating that she was being fired from her job as an
office administrator after she called the job “boring” on
her Facebook page, The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.
“Following your comments made on Facebook about your job
and the company we feel it is better that, as you are not
happy and do not enjoy your work we end your employment
with Ivell Marketing & Logistics with immediate effect,”
the letter read. “I did not even put the company’s name,
I just put that my job was boring. They were just being
nosy, going through everything. I think it is really sad,
it makes them look stupid that they are going to be so
petty,” Swann said.

———- 100-year-old man still hard at work ———–

SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. – A Minnesota man who marked his
100th birthday Thursday continues to work half days at
the company he has owned since 1955, family members said.
Bill Horst, son of centenarian Errett “Eddie” Horst, said
his father still puts in weekday hours at Globe Publishing
in South St. Paul, Minn., and until six months ago, he
was driving himself to work for daily 8-hour shifts, the
St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer-Press reported. “He would’ve been
gone at 85 if he had retired,” Bill Horst said. “He comes
here every day, and it makes him feel like he’s a part of
the place. People — his old clients — still come in here
to see him and call to see how he’s doing. But there just
aren’t a lot of his old buddies left.” Eddie Horst, who
has 15 great-grandchildren, said that despite needing a
magnifying glass to read mail and invoices since his eye-
sight began failing last year, he is otherwise in perfect
condition to work. “Other than my eyesight, I’m fine,” he
said.

———- Couple, 14 and 17, divorce in Israel ————

JERUSALEM – The Jerusalem Rabbinic Court has granted a
divorce to the youngest couple to ever apply in Israel,
a 14-year-old girl and her 17-year-old husband. A spokes-
woman for the Rabbinic Courts Administration said the
groom’s parents insisted on the divorce after they
discovered that he and his young wife had married under
Jewish law by exchanging vows in front of two witnesses,
giving one another rings and consummating the relation-
ship, The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday. “We want young
people to learn from this case,” the spokeswoman said.
“Getting married like this can ruin a young person’s life.”
Rabbi Eliyahu Ben-Dahan, director of the Rabbinic Court
Administration, said young people should take the lesson
from the divorce that “marriage is not a joke but a
serious commitment that should not be taken lightly.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> READER COMMENTS <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

HI..Regarding the story where the homeowner took off in the
thieves’ car…I read he was going to be charged with vehicle
theft. How’s that for justice? -Rosie
[I didn't read that. And I sort of find it hard to believe,
since the victim called the police himself.]

i just love all your videos! i just watched talented bear.
-shirley
[That's an incredible video, isn't it?]

What tragedy about Anna Nicole Smith? Now all the rich old
men in America don’t have to worry about her stealing their
money. Besides, I remember seeing on TV that ‘her anus was
unremarkable.’ Wait, is that the tragedy? I’m so confused.
-Michael
[I have seen it and whoever said that was dead wrong. She
had a very remarkable anus.]

The example of waste in the state of Washington is egregious
but this is not why we have a $7 trillion federal debt. The
government’s problem is off the books and black budget
spending. A stack of 100 dollar bills were airlifted into
Iraq with no accounting for where they went. Billions of
dollars are spent on weapon systems that do not work and
intelligence agencies that did not prevent the attacks on
the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. At least social
service spending like the food stamps that Washington State
is getting go immediately into our economy and multiple
several times keeping our economy going. -Jeremy
[You are right about that. Several months ago I did a column
in BN about that very story. The gross waste, lack of over-
sight, accountability and...I guess there is no other word
for it...CORRUPTION that has been going on over there is
just disgusting.]
