Have you ever heard the expression ‘raining cats and dogs’?
Well, in Japan it rains fish and tadpoles. Literally! Not
surprising in a country popular for Godzilla sightings.

Some people said the fallen objects might have come from the
beaks of flying birds, while others said that a gust of wind
might have swirled them up together with water. However, the
actual reason behind the phenomenon remains unknown, leaving
residents looking up and wondering what might fall from the
sky next.

One evening a man noticed the sound of something plopping onto
the ground at a parking lot of the Nakajima citizens center
in Nanao. When he looked back, he saw tadpoles scattered upon
a car and on the ground.

According to Kiwamu Funakura, 36, an official at the center
who went to the parking lot at the time, about 100 tadpoles
were found to have been scattered around the area.

In Hakusan, about 70 kilometers southwest of Nanao, between
20 to 30 dead tadpoles were found on a car windshield and
other places in a parking lot.

Meanwhile, Yukio Oumi, 78, found small dead fish around his
house in Nakanotomachi. He found 13 fish, apparently crucian
carp each 3 centimeters long, on the back of his truck and
the ground.

According to the Kanazawa Local Meteorological Observatory,
it has no information that any tornadoes occurred on the days
when the tadpoles and small fishes were found. “Birds such
as herons or umineko (black-tailed gulls) that had these
tadpoles in their mouths or gorges might have dropped them
because they were startled by something while flying,” said
Kimimasa Tokikuni, the head of the Ishikawa prefectural
branch of the Japanese Society for Preservation of Birds.

All the places where tadpoles and small fish were found are
located near rice paddies in which tadpoles live. So it is
possible that gray herons and other waterfowl, which are in
the middle of their breeding periods, tried to take them as
food for young birds, according to Tokikuni.

That may be…just as long as whatever is scaring the food
right out of passing birds’ mouths isn’t a 200-foot tall,
radioactive fire-breathing lizard.

her front door was open, her keys were missing and a man
she recognized as neighbor Jacob Fast, 20, was going
though the items in her car, The Grand Rapids (Mich.)
Press reported Thursday. Court documents said Fast, who
was dressed only in his boxer shorts and a purple bra,
tried to kick and push officers during his arrest. He
was charged with resisting arrest and home invasion. He
was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bond. Fast has one prior
conviction for second-degree home invasion and possession
of burglary tools from 2005, court records show.

New York jail with nearly 60 guests for six hours last
December, the New York Post reported. “I’ve never seen, in

successfully demolished — by mistake. Al Byrd said he was

year-old in Kansas was arrested over the weekend for allegedly
shooting his friend on a dare.

Police said the incident began when the 17-year-old friend
taunted the 18-year-old with a gun, saying the 18-year-old
would not shoot him. He was wrong.

The 18-year-old then shot his friend in the thigh.

When police arrived, the two reportedly said the older teen
had found the younger teen in the street with a gunshot

CHIRK, Wales – Firefighters in Wales said they were called
to a home to rescue a 3-year-old girl whose foot became
stuck in the handle of a toilet. Kevin Rogers said he
purchased the training potty for his daughter, Rebecca,
last Wednesday and the following day he heard her and
her sister, Daniella, 2, screaming, The Daily Telegraph
reported Monday. “The day after I bought the potty I got
it out and left the girls with it to do the washing up,”
Rogers said. “I heard this horrible scream but thought the
girls were just fighting as usual. When the scream carried
on I realized something was really wrong so I charged into
the living room, only to find that Rebecca had her foot
lodged in the handle of the potty. She was hysterical.”
Rogers said he phoned the fire department after his own
efforts to free Rebecca’s foot failed. Firefighters said
it took them about 15 minutes to extricate her. “This type
of call is very infrequent and unusual,” said Chris Nott,

by local officials to clothe the naked lawn gnomes that
have stood in her front garden for about 15 years. Sandra
Smith, 64, said she was forced to cover the gnomes, one

Today’s bizarre comes to you from Japan. And this is bizarre,
folks, but I guess no more bizarre than a lot of religious
ceremonies. To tell you the truth, I would sort of like to
see something like this in, say, the Catholic church.

About 9,000 men clad only in loincloths joined in a free-for-
all at a Buddhist temple in Japan, trying to secure two pieces
of sacred wood.

The event at Saidaiji Temple in Okayama was part of the 500th
anniversary of Saidaiji Eyo, described as “one of Japan’s
three oddest festivals.”

Whoever got out with the two chunks of wood, if not his
“fundoshi” or white loincloth, was to be proclaimed by the
temple’s monks as “the man of fortune for the year.”

The ceremony began about 10 p.m. Saturday with a purification
ritual in which the men poured cold water on themselves. Then,
at midnight, the monks turned off the lights and dropped the
two 8-inch sticks among them and the struggle began.

There was no word on who turned out to be the lucky guy, but
it was probably the one who had the fewest butt cheeks smashed
in his face while scrambling for the wood. Why does that sound

was driving himself to work for daily 8-hour shifts, the

here every day, and it makes him feel like he’s a part of
the place. People — his old clients — still come in here
to see him and call to see how he’s doing. But there just

JERUSALEM – The Jerusalem Rabbinic Court has granted a
divorce to the youngest couple to ever apply in Israel,
a 14-year-old girl and her 17-year-old husband. A spokes-
woman for the Rabbinic Courts Administration said the
groom’s parents insisted on the divorce after they
discovered that he and his young wife had married under
Jewish law by exchanging vows in front of two witnesses,
giving one another rings and consummating the relation-
ship, The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday. “We want young
people to learn from this case,” the spokeswoman said.
“Getting married like this can ruin a young person’s life.”
Rabbi Eliyahu Ben-Dahan, director of the Rabbinic Court
Administration, said young people should take the lesson
from the divorce that “marriage is not a joke but a
serious commitment that should not be taken lightly.”

What tragedy about Anna Nicole Smith? Now all the rich old
men in America don’t have to worry about her stealing their
money. Besides, I remember seeing on TV that ‘her anus was
unremarkable.’ Wait, is that the tragedy? I’m so confused.

The example of waste in the state of Washington is egregious
but this is not why we have a $7 trillion federal debt. The
government’s problem is off the books and black budget
spending. A stack of 100 dollar bills were airlifted into
Iraq with no accounting for where they went. Billions of
dollars are spent on weapon systems that do not work and
intelligence agencies that did not prevent the attacks on
the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. At least social
service spending like the food stamps that Washington State
is getting go immediately into our economy and multiple
