Have you ever heard the expression ‘raining cats and dogs’?
Well, in Japan it rains fish and tadpoles. Literally! Not
surprising in a country popular for Godzilla sightings.

Some people said the fallen objects might have come from the
beaks of flying birds, while others said that a gust of wind
might have swirled them up together with water. However, the
actual reason behind the phenomenon remains unknown, leaving
residents looking up and wondering what might fall from the
sky next.

One evening a man noticed the sound of something plopping onto
the ground at a parking lot of the Nakajima citizens center
in Nanao. When he looked back, he saw tadpoles scattered upon
a car and on the ground.

According to Kiwamu Funakura, 36, an official at the center
who went to the parking lot at the time, about 100 tadpoles
were found to have been scattered around the area.

In Hakusan, about 70 kilometers southwest of Nanao, between
20 to 30 dead tadpoles were found on a car windshield and
other places in a parking lot.

Meanwhile, Yukio Oumi, 78, found small dead fish around his
house in Nakanotomachi. He found 13 fish, apparently crucian
carp each 3 centimeters long, on the back of his truck and
the ground.

According to the Kanazawa Local Meteorological Observatory,
it has no information that any tornadoes occurred on the days
when the tadpoles and small fishes were found. “Birds such
as herons or umineko (black-tailed gulls) that had these
tadpoles in their mouths or gorges might have dropped them
because they were startled by something while flying,” said
Kimimasa Tokikuni, the head of the Ishikawa prefectural
branch of the Japanese Society for Preservation of Birds.

All the places where tadpoles and small fish were found are
located near rice paddies in which tadpoles live. So it is
possible that gray herons and other waterfowl, which are in
the middle of their breeding periods, tried to take them as
food for young birds, according to Tokikuni.

That may be…just as long as whatever is scaring the food
right out of passing birds’ mouths isn’t a 200-foot tall,
radioactive fire-breathing lizard.

SPARTA, Mich. – Police in Michigan said a man accused of
taking a woman’s keys and rifling through her car was
wearing nothing but his boxer shorts and a purple bra.
The Rockford District Court heard Sparta resident Lisa
Collins woke up Tuesday at about 5 a.m. and discovered
her front door was open, her keys were missing and a man
she recognized as neighbor Jacob Fast, 20, was going
though the items in her car, The Grand Rapids (Mich.)
Press reported Thursday. Court documents said Fast, who
was dressed only in his boxer shorts and a purple bra,
tried to kick and push officers during his arrest. He
was charged with resisting arrest and home invasion. He
was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bond. Fast has one prior
conviction for second-degree home invasion and possession
of burglary tools from 2005, court records show.

they felt at winning $5,000 in the lottery was nothing
compared to the thrill of winning $1 million the next
week. Karen Hill, 34, of Villa Roca, said she was pleased
when her husband, Chuck, came home with a $5,000 Weekly
WinFall ticket, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported
Thursday. “I never thought in a million years that I’d
win anything, even the $5,000,” Hill said. “So I’m still
in a state of shock.” However, she said the state of shock
increased by a factor of 200 when she bought winning
Georgia Lottery ticket for $1 million. “I was really
ecstatic about the $5,000,” Hill said, “but then, boom!
When I got this one I was just like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe
this. My life is going to change for the better.’” Hill
said she and her husband plan to use their newfound riches
to pay off their bills.

NEW YORK – A New York Department of Correction source says
a wealthy inmate held a lavish bar mitzvah celebration for
his son despite being incarcerated. The anonymous source
said Tuvia Stern, jailed for perpetrating financial scams
and jumping bail, celebrated his son’s bar mitzvah at a
New York jail with nearly 60 guests for six hours last
December, the New York Post reported. “I’ve never seen, in
my career, anything as stupid as this,” the insider said
of the Dec. 30 event. “It’s outrageous what transpired.”
The source said an outside caterer brought kosher food to
the jail for the event, and bar mitzvah guests were allowed
to keep their cell phones despite jail rules to the
contrary. The Post said the event, which has been criticiz-
ed by Correction Commissioner Martin Horn, resulted in five
top correction officials being disciplined Wednesday. Among
those disciplined in the 2008 event was correction chaplain
Rabbi Leib Glanz, who was suspended for two weeks for help-
ing orchestrate the bar mitzvah in the jail’s gym.

CARROLL, Ga. – A Georgia man said he received a phone call
saying the three-bedroom house his father built had been
successfully demolished — by mistake. Al Byrd said he was
shocked when the Marietta demolition company told him the
Carroll house, which was vacant but filled with family
heirlooms, had been destroyed, the Atlanta Journal-
Constitution reported. “It’s just incredulous that some-
thing like this can happen and no one contacts the owner,”
Byrd said. He said the demolition company told him the
work crew’s paperwork and GPS coordinates had led them to
the home. He theorized the vacant house across the street
was the house sought by the company. “We had heirlooms in
there,” Byrd said. “My mom’s dining room set, her hutch
with her dishes in there.”

Lewis, Social Security, contrary to your negative viewpoint,
will continue to be here. It’s already secure through 2036
and can be fixed permanently with one simple addition. Start
taxing ALL income at the current level of 13%, eliminating
the cut off point of roughly $106,000. Why should somebody
making $150,000 pay a smaller percentage than some poor
schlub supporting his wife and three kids on $60,000 per
year? And, make all members of Congress start paying their
fair share of taxes and medical insurance. That’ll kick them
